“Thank you so much for accommodating our large group of students. The rafting trip was definitely the highlight for almost everyone, and the experience had a profound effect on our students. The guides were engaging and dynamic and their enthusiasm was infectious from the put-in all the way to the take-out. A couple of anecdotes I’d like you to share with the staff:
“In the morning, we had 2 students opt not to raft. They were a bit nervous and scared after the safety talk and actually seeing (and hearing) the river. While we were eating lunch at camp (after we rafted the Chili Bar section), both students approached me and asked to join the group. They mentioned that everyone seemed like they had had so much fun and was talking about it constantly over lunch…It’s clear that our trip with you brought out the best in our children. Their encouragement and energy were infectious. They made scared peers feel safe and nervous peers feel comfortable.
“Many of our students do not know how to swim and were somewhat fearful when they heard we were going rafting. But as our trip began, something funny happened. First, two students together took the plunge into the river on a dare. A few other boats saw this, and that led to a few more students jumping in. By the end of our trip just prior to being hitched up and towed, students were jumping in left and right amid cheers. They even started chanting for the teachers to do the same, which we did.
Both of these anecdotes highlight the best in our children. Their ability to inspire each other and help each other overcome challenges is awesome.
It is amazing how a 3,000-mile flight, a 3-hour bus ride and the gracious spirit of a rafting company can help our children learn more about themselves than they had ever known. Thank you for providing such an exhilarating experience for all of us, teachers included!
We definitely hope to continue this relationship in the future. This is something that all of our children deserve.”
